The online cooperative shooter, Arc Raiders, has experienced a notable decrease in its player base since its peak. Once attracting over 480,000 concurrent users on Steam, the game now sees approximately 25,000 daily players. This decline is largely attributed to a perceived scarcity of engaging activities for players once they reach the game's later stages.
Players currently have the option to repeatedly confront formidable adversaries, such as the Queen and the Matriarch, which demand advanced weaponry and synchronized team efforts. However, after mastering these challenges, many players seek new experiences elsewhere. Engaging in player-versus-player combat presents another avenue, but the current aggression-based matchmaking system deters some players, as it can lead to less friendly lobbies and reports of cheating further diminish its appeal, leaving the endgame feeling stagnant.
In response to these concerns, Embark Studios, the developer behind Arc Raiders, is preparing to launch the 'Frozen Trail' update. This major update, the first in six months, will introduce novel, repeatable activities designed to offer fresh challenges. Aleksander Grøndal, the executive producer, acknowledged that different players have varying needs for endgame content. While some are content with existing trials and expeditions, the team is also focused on providing more compelling incentives for PvP participation. Grøndal indicated that 'Frozen Trail' marks a crucial initial stride in this direction, with additional, long-term strategies in development to continuously enhance the player experience, through subsequent smaller updates and a future major release.
This proactive approach by Embark Studios highlights a commitment to evolving Arc Raiders based on player feedback.
