Actress Beth Behrs is set to make a guest appearance in the forthcoming third season of ABC's comedy series, Shifting Gears. This marks a notable on-screen reunion for Behrs with her former co-star from 2 Broke Girls, Kat Dennings. Furthermore, the episode brings an off-camera reunion with Michelle Nader, the current showrunner for Shifting Gears, who previously served as a writer and executive producer on 2 Broke Girls.
In her guest role, Behrs will portray Dr. Johnson, an emergency room doctor who provides medical care to Riley, the character played by Dennings, following a back injury. While the specific broadcast date for this episode is yet to be announced, the third season of Shifting Gears is anticipated to debut in early 2027 as part of ABC’s midseason programming schedule. This collaboration is the second instance of Shifting Gears orchestrating a reunion from another sitcom, following the appearance of Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning from Tim Allen’s Home Improvement in the second season premiere in October 2025.
The series features Tim Allen and Kat Dennings in the lead roles of a father and daughter, supported by a cast including Seann William Scott, Daryl Chill Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis. Executive producers for the show include Allen, Nader, Bob Daily, Jim Patterson, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, and John Amodeo, with Dennings also serving as a producer. The production is handled by 20th Television. Behrs recently concluded an eight-season run on CBS's comedy The Neighborhood, which aired its final episode in May. Her career also spans voice acting in Pixar’s Monsters University and a role in the independent film Hello, My Name Is Doris, where she appeared alongside Max Greenfield, another former colleague from The Neighborhood. Additionally, Behrs hosts her own podcast, Harmonics.
This casting news highlights the continued appeal of familiar on-screen partnerships and the creative synergy that can result from reuniting talent. Such collaborations often enrich new productions by leveraging established chemistry, offering audiences a comforting sense of nostalgia while introducing beloved actors to fresh narratives. The entertainment industry thrives on these connections, weaving a vibrant tapestry of shared experiences that resonate deeply with viewers and foster a sense of community around popular shows and personalities.
