In a strategic move to bolster the independent video game sector, Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has unveiled Frame1Games. This pioneering endeavor is designed to offer significant financial investment and comprehensive developmental support to emerging game creators, fostering innovation and facilitating market entry for their unique projects. The program aims to address the challenges faced by independent developers in an increasingly competitive industry.
CAA Launches Innovative Indie Game Accelerator Program
On August 24, 2026, CAA announced the inception of Frame1Games, a groundbreaking initiative poised to transform the landscape for independent video game development. Headquartered within CAA, Frame1Games will provide selected developers with multi-million-dollar capital investments and a year-long acceleration program. This robust support system includes expert mentorship from seasoned industry veterans and CAA executives, alongside direct access to essential partners and vendors required to successfully launch a game. The program intends to back multiple independent projects annually, offering strategic guidance across media relations, marketing, business partnerships, and distribution channels. Beginning in 2027, Frame1Games will actively promote its supported titles at major consumer-facing video game events, including the prestigious Summer Game Fest in June and The Game Awards in December. Interested indie developers can apply for the inaugural cohort through the official Frame1Games website.
Guiding this ambitious new venture is Jared Yeager, a seasoned investment partner from Indie Fund, known for backing over 50 titles such as “Hyper Light Drifter” and “Hollow Knight.” As the lead executive for CAA’s Frame1Games, Yeager will, with a panel of experts, oversee the program, counsel participating developers, cultivate a robust mentor network, and forge strategic industry alliances, steering each cohort from initial concept to commercial success. His extensive background also includes 16 years as co-chair of the awards jury for IndieCade and a founding role in FoxNext Games’ indie development fund, along with contributions to major studio productions like “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” at Walt Disney Games. Xalavier Nelson Jr., the visionary founder of Strange Scaffold, an indie video game studio responsible for titles like “El Paso” and “I Am Your Beast,” will lend his expertise as a key mentor in the Frame1Games program. This launch underscores CAA’s enduring commitment to the video game industry, building on years of representing prominent studios such as Respawn, Obsidian, Turtle Rock Studios, AdHoc Studio, and Strange Scaffold. Derek Douglas, CAA’s Head of Games, emphasizes that the initiative’s core purpose is to empower independent developers with funding, mentorship, and a clear path to reach audiences, especially as indie games now constitute over half of global game sales. Douglas and Yeager highlight that while traditional AAA game development costs soar, making publishers more risk-averse, the accessibility of development tools and distribution platforms has created a fertile ground for indie creators. Frame1Games seeks to amplify these innovative voices, ensuring that creative talent receives the necessary support to thrive in a dynamic industry. This program is an evolution of CAA’s decades-long philosophy: investing in talented individuals ensures the flourishing of artistic expression.
