In a remarkable two-month engineering feat, Dodge has reimagined the Charger, producing a pair of bespoke, high-horsepower machines specifically designed for the demanding art of drifting. These vehicles represent a significant departure from their factory counterparts, showcasing intensive modifications aimed at maximizing performance and handling for the drift arena.

From Concept to Reality: A Rapid Transformation

Dodge undertook an ambitious project, converting standard 550-horsepower, all-wheel-drive, automatic Charger models into formidable rear-wheel-drive, manual drift cars, all within a mere 60-day timeframe. This impressive turnaround highlights the dedication and expertise of the fabrication team involved.

The Visionaries Behind the Build

The intricate conversion was spearheaded by a collaborative team, including Mike Musto, a prominent figure in programming at Hemmings, and Suppy Wejpanich from Suppy's Garage. Their mission was to construct two distinct drift vehicles based on the Charger Scat Pack, each powered by Dodge's potent Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine. One model, the two-door BOOST Coupe, is engineered for sheer performance, while the four-door Rapid People Mover (RPM) is designed for passenger demonstrations during drift events.

Engineered for Extremes: Power and Drivetrain Upgrades

While the original Charger served as the foundation, nearly every component underwent significant modification, with only the windshield remaining untouched. The stock six-cylinder engines, initially producing 550 horsepower, received substantial enhancements, now boasting an impressive output of at least 750 horsepower in both vehicles.

Turbocharged Transformations: Coupe vs. Sedan

The two-door coupe's factory twin-turbo system was ingeniously reconfigured into a high-output single-turbo setup, complemented by custom intake and exhaust systems. In contrast, the four-door variant, nicknamed the 'taxi,' retained its twin turbos but saw them extensively modified, alongside a new custom intake and enhanced cooling systems.

Precision Control: Manual Transmission and Drift-Specific Enhancements

A crucial aspect of these drift cars is the integration of manual transmissions, directing power exclusively to the rear wheels, a stark deviation from the Charger's standard all-wheel-drive and automatic configuration. The conventional suspension and chassis components were replaced with robust, drift-specific hardware. Furthermore, the steering geometry was meticulously adjusted to provide superior control during high-speed slides. Inside, the production interiors were stripped and outfitted with racing seats, reinforced roll cages, and multi-point harnesses, ensuring driver safety and optimal performance.

Striking Aesthetics: A Visual Makeover

Beyond their mechanical prowess, these high-performance twins received a comprehensive exterior redesign. Both vehicles feature custom hoods, broadened front and rear fenders, distinctive rear wings, and subtle aerodynamic refinements. Their appearance is further enhanced by liveries that seamlessly blend the Charger's new Purple Haze color with traditional racing and drifting motifs, creating a visually arresting presence.

Debut at Roadkill Nights: A Showcase of Innovation

These custom-built Chargers are set to make their grand debut at Roadkill Nights on August 8th in Pontiac, Michigan. They will be showcased alongside Dodge's new Charger Super Bee, which also features a revised high-output Hurricane engine, now delivering 600 horsepower, a significant increase from its standard 550 horsepower.
