A Fairytale Wedding at Castello di Celsa in Italy

Rene Barnes, a jewelry designer, and Christian DiCroce, a real estate broker, recently celebrated their dream wedding at Castello di Celsa in Italy. Their journey began with a memorable first date in Charleston on October 6, 2022, where Christian instantly knew Rene was the one. Three years later, on May 8, 2025, Christian proposed in Charleston, choosing the historic Chalmers Street for its romantic ambiance. The couple decided to exchange vows exactly one year later, on May 8, 2026, at the stunning Castello di Celsa, a venue that immediately captured their hearts. Their wedding weekend was an intimate affair, thoughtfully planned to create a unique experience for their close friends and family.

The bride, Rene, showcased her artistic flair by designing her entire wedding wardrobe. With a passion for unique couture textiles, she meticulously crafted each outfit, from a cream Dior jacquard dress for the welcome dinner to an Oscar de la Renta silk gown for the evening, and a stunning Italian silk jacquard gown for the ceremony itself. Her wedding bands and custom diamond brooch for Christian also bore her personal touch, each piece using old European diamonds. Christian complemented her bespoke style with a double-breasted black tuxedo from Casa dei Tessuti in Florence, highlighting their shared appreciation for fine craftsmanship.

The festivities commenced at the Grand Hotel Continental in Siena with a welcome dinner in a grand fresco ballroom, reminiscent of a step back in time. The evening was filled with heartwarming reunions, delicious food, and touching speeches. The following day, set against the breathtaking Tuscan countryside, the couple exchanged vows in the garden of Castello di Celsa. Rene walked down the aisle to a unique rendition of “Con Te Partirò,” a song cherished by Christian, performed by their band. Her father officiated the ceremony, adding a deeply personal dimension to the union.

After a heartfelt ceremony, which Christian described as a moment of profound peace and certainty, and Rene vividly recalled seeing a rainbow, symbolizing magic, they transitioned to a lively cocktail hour in another part of the garden. The celebration continued in the castle's inner courtyard, adorned with red florals and candlelight, where guests enjoyed an intimate dinner featuring local cuisine. The night culminated in an energetic dance party with music by The Cool Boyz, where Rene kicked off her shoes and fully embraced the joyous atmosphere. The couple expressed immense gratitude for their loved ones and the unforgettable experience, which Rene called “more than we could have ever dreamed of.”

The carefully orchestrated wedding weekend began with guests arriving in Siena, a city chosen for its historical charm. Christian’s thoughtfulness in incorporating Rene’s love for red peonies throughout the decorations underscored his deep affection. Rene's journey down the aisle, accompanied by both her parents, was a touching moment, marked by a mix of tears and laughter, making the memory even more precious. The personalized touches, such as Rene’s grandmother’s hairstyle for the ceremony and the cherub motif on their stationery—a nod to an artwork Rene had given Christian—added layers of personal significance to every detail.

The couple also ensured their guests were well looked after with welcome packets designed by Nicole Ferguson, detailing the weekend’s events. From the pre-ceremony excitement, captured in candid moments with Rene's mother and aunt, to Christian's tailored suit and the first dance as husband and wife, every element contributed to a truly magical celebration. The joyous atmosphere extended to speeches from close friends and family, including Rene's stepdad, Leon, and her best friend, Kate, each adding a personal and humorous touch to the evening. The event was a testament to their love, a vibrant celebration of their commitment, and a beautiful beginning to their married life, surrounded by the warmth of family and friends.
