Despite initial concerns about the $80 price tag for the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto 6, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick has indicated that consumers are showing a strong preference for the more expensive $100 Ultimate Edition. This trend suggests that dedicated fans are willing to invest more for additional content, even before the game's highly anticipated release. Zelnick views this as a reflection of the enthusiasm among the most passionate players who are eager to secure premium access and exclusive in-game items.
During an interview with CNBC, Strauss Zelnick disclosed that the premium version of GTA 6 is currently dominating standard edition sales. He cautiously attributed this to the likelihood that the most fervent gamers are the primary demographic engaging in pre-orders. Zelnick reiterated Take-Two's approach to pricing, emphasizing that while they possess significant pricing power, their goal is to ensure the game offers substantial value to players. He asserted that the company does not want the cost to be prohibitive, aiming for an accessible experience for all.
Further elaborating on the pricing philosophy, Zelnick characterized the $80 standard edition as an "incredible bargain" during a recent Take-Two earnings call. The Ultimate Edition, priced at $100, comes with "additional content," as stated by Zelnick. The official pre-order details confirm that this includes exclusive cosmetic items and a complimentary month of GTA+, a subscription service providing various benefits within GTA Online. Take-Two maintains high expectations for GTA 6's success but remains grounded, choosing not to project sales figures that might surpass the historic performance of GTA 5, which sold over 200 million copies since its 2013 launch.
GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The strong pre-order performance of the Ultimate Edition highlights the immense anticipation surrounding Rockstar's next open-world installment, underscoring consumers' willingness to pay a premium for enhanced content and exclusive experiences within the gaming world.
