The acclaimed series "Heated Rivalry" is significantly expanding its ensemble for its highly anticipated second season, introducing five new talented individuals to its growing cast.
Emily Hampshire, known for her roles in "Schitt’s Creek" and "VisionQuest," Edvin Ryding from "The Young Royals," Robert Naylor of "Mile End Kicks" fame, Sabrina Jalees seen in "I Used to Be Funny," and Priyanka from "Drag Brunch Saved My Life," are all set to join the Crave-HBO Max production. They will act alongside the show's original leads, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, as well as other recently announced cast members, Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie. The series, which draws its narrative from Rachel Reid's "Game Changers" book collection, was an unexpected triumph in 2025, quickly gaining a devoted following and securing an early renewal for its second installment.
Hampshire will portray the character Vanessa, Ryding will step into the role of Luca Haas, Naylor will embody Wyatt Hayes, Jalees will appear as Farah Jalali, and Priyanka will take on the character of Tarek. The inaugural season's synopsis outlines the intricate bond between rival hockey players Shane Hollander (Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Storrie), exploring their shared aspirations, competitive spirit, and a deep connection that evolves from a clandestine romance into a protracted journey of affection, denial, and self-discovery. Bell Media's Crave commissioned the series, with support from the Canada Media Fund (CMF). Jacob Tierney serves as the writer, director, and executive producer, with Brendan Brady and Jayme Alter Wilson also executive producing. Lori Fischburg and Liane Cunje are producers, and Rachel Reid participates as a consulting producer. Mike Goldbach contributes as a co-writer for the second season. Sphere Abacus, a Bell Media subsidiary, handles the international distribution of the series.
The continued success of "Heated Rivalry" highlights the power of compelling storytelling and diverse talent in capturing audience attention. This expansion of the cast for the second season not only promises to enrich the narrative but also reinforces the show's commitment to delivering high-quality, engaging content that resonates with viewers. The series serves as an inspiring example of artistic collaboration and innovation in the contemporary television landscape, proving that passion and creativity can lead to widespread acclaim and a positive impact on cultural conversations.
