Sekai, an independent game studio, has achieved a significant milestone by launching the inaugural official digital card application for the globally beloved anime series, 'Naruto.' This innovative app, titled 'Naruto Ninja Cards,' offers fans a unique gamified experience centered around collecting iconic characters and engaging in strategic gameplay. The journey to bring this vision to fruition was arduous, spanning five years and requiring persistent efforts to gain the trust and approval of both the original creator, Masashi Kishimoto, and TV Tokyo.

The 'Naruto Ninja Cards' app, now available worldwide on major app stores, distinguishes itself as the sole free-to-play 'Naruto' digital card game. It allows players to amass digital cards featuring their favorite characters, discover exclusive new artworks, and participate in real-time strategic challenges with friends. This project represents a culmination of dedication from the Paris and Tokyo-based Sekai team, which began its focused efforts on anime-related ventures in 2021.

Securing the intellectual property rights from TV Tokyo was a formidable undertaking. Despite numerous unofficial 'Naruto' applications existing, Sekai aimed for an official endorsement. After extensive discussions and relationship-building, TV Tokyo not only agreed to partner with Sekai but also made an investment in the indie studio. This marked TV Tokyo's first investment in a Western company since its backing of Crunchyroll, highlighting the unique nature of this collaboration. Samy Therain, co-founder and CEO of Sekai, emphasized the studio's profound commitment, stating, "We're pouring our soul into this project."

The path to approval was not without its dramatic turns. Following a year and a half of intensive negotiations and a period of unexpected silence from TV Tokyo, Sekai's team faced the potential collapse of the project. Therain recounted a pivotal moment when he learned that Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of 'Naruto,' had initially not approved the endeavor. Faced with despair, Therain found renewed inspiration from his wife, who encouraged him to embody the spirit of Naruto himself – to never give up. This led him to pen a heartfelt letter directly to Kishimoto, expressing his deep personal connection to the series and its impact on his life, concluding with the iconic phrase, "I will never give up because this is my ninja way." Remarkably, this impassioned plea led to Kishimoto's eventual approval.

With the successful launch, Sekai is not resting on its laurels. The studio has ambitious plans for the future, including continuous product enhancements driven by community feedback, with new card sets released quarterly. Beyond the app, Sekai intends to leverage its 'Naruto' IP deal to explore new frontiers. This includes venturing into developing high-quality, anime-inspired AAA games and conceptualizing live events that promise an unprecedented immersive experience. Therain envisions these events as the "Super Bowl of Anime," incorporating advanced pyrotechnics and holograms to bring the epic battles of Naruto to life on a grand stage, aiming to redefine audience expectations for live entertainment.

The successful launch of 'Naruto Ninja Cards' is a testament to Sekai's unwavering passion and strategic resilience, transforming an initial setback into a triumph that deepens the franchise's engagement with its global fanbase. The studio's commitment to authentic content and community involvement underscores its future endeavors, promising exciting developments for Naruto enthusiasts worldwide.
